WE MAY HAVE LOST THE BATTLE..
BUT WE'RE STILL IN THE WAR...
There was quite a showing of opposition at the very lengthy Municipality Meeting of May 26th regarding the zoning by-law application and campsite proposal on Dokis Road. Thanks to all of you who supported and continue to support us, Council took our concerns into consideration and realized that environmental protection was necessary.
Information will be posted soon about the results of the meeting and the restrictions put on the zoning by-law amendment that was passed by Council.

Once the amendment has been finalized, it will be posted here. Although the
Council voted in favour of the proponent, (4-2), there were provisions made in our favour which ensures this development will take years to even begin, if at all.
Some of the restrictions incorporated into the amendment will cost the proponant extra time and money in order for this campsite to be a viable endeavour.
Sites are restricted to 25 permanent RV sites and 10 transient sites.
The plan MUST be approved by all Ministries, some of which include the DFO, MNR, and the MNE. This is a difficult task, given the amount of wetlands and wildlife that need consideration.
Provisions are included to protect the wetlands and to determine
Species at Risk in the area.
Buffer zones between adjacent properties will restrict the campers from activities in those areas. With the buffers, there is no longer a beach available to campers.
ONLY ONE DOCK AND FOUR BOATS ARE ALLOWED !
NO CONSTRUCTION will start until ALL Ministry Studies are approved. Some studies
require a year's waiting list to even be considered.
There will be a 300 foot setback from the lake for any structures.
There must be a fence constructed around the campsite area, compatable with wildlife migration and paths, along with signs posted as to the boundaries of the site.
There are already two trailers on the property, when only one is allowed at this time. One must be removed. There will be only one permanent residence allowed on the property.

These are a few of the provisions put in place associated with the Commercially Zoned property. The photo below is a view of the lake today, taken from another resident's property. We are all hoping it stays this way forever, for the lake and for future generations.

Restrictions have been put in place by City Council to protect the wetlands, the lake and the neighbouring properties from unregulated
development.  Since development began immediately after the commercial zoning was passed and prior to any inpections required by the appropriate Ministries, the residents of the area and all concerned parties were unclear of why the development was allowed to happen. Updated information reveals that all restrictions are in full force.
