Dokis Road Community Marshall Lake Commercial Campsite STOP Commercial Camping
MARSHALL LAKE

One of the very few non-commercial
areas left in our beautiful province.
A place where man has not yet disrupted
the balance of nature, the wildife and the
environment.
The people who live near and on the lake in this Rural setting cherish this land and would never abuse it in any way. It is our passion. It is our solace.
It is our life.
Marshall lake is in jeopardy.
A proposed zoning change from Rural
Zoning to Commerical Zoning if passed, will allow
a small parcel of land to be developed into a  commercial camping park, filled with all the
structures of a typical campground.  An 'environmentally friendly'  proposal of over 80 sites on less than 54 acres.  One would assume that 80 RV's equates to at least 240 people and possibly 160 watercraft or more.
With only an approximate usable shoreline of less than 50 feet, imagine the impact on the shore and marsh coastline this will have. In most areas of this narrow lake, the width is less than 500 feet. Due to the rockbed chances are the sewage will make it's way into the lake infecting and polluting the
water, including natural springs and marshes. The increased amount of watercraft and
unmonitored fishing will no doubt deplete the lake of
it's resources. The increased noise will ruin the serenity and
drive away the wildlife.  One unattended campfire will destroy our haven forever.
Please help us to STOP this campsite from happening. We are determined to spread the word and prevent this development from ruining this beloved lake and others in the Province!
In a generation of 'Green' it is unthinkable that
it would be acceptable to commercialize this RURAL area and change forever what we have respected and loved our entire lives. We need to protect this lake and it's land and shore . The last thing we need on this very small prestine Ontario lake is a commercial campsite. Please sign our petition and express your opposition to this proposal. It is imperative that we stop this action before it's too late and we find ourselves with environmental problems to great to solve. There will be another Municipal Meeting regarding this issue on May 26 in Sturgeon Falls at 6:00 pm.

You can also sign our guestbook with your arguements against this proposal and we will submit that as support as well!

If there is ANYONE who can provide advice on how to fight this with logical substantial evidence that this development should NOT be allowed, please contact us or sign our Guest Book with your suggestions!
We need to maintain Dokis Reserve Road as a Rurally zoned area, not Commercial!

Proposed Site for Boat Launch, Water Park,
Playground, with Electric Cars and Quads, and a Town Hall Meeting Structure. Home to Snapping Turtles,
Water Snakes and Leeches, as well as a feeding and breeding area for many fish species. Not a suitable location for the amount of traffic a campsite invites.

AND TAKE NOTE OF THIS EXCERPT

"The Stewardship Association appealed the municipal approval of the trailer park proposal to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) based on concerns about:
the potential for the development to irreversibly disturb the sensitive and pristine wetland ecosystem, for example by boaters and personal watercraft users accessing the wetland from the campground; and,
how proper enforcement of any restrictions placed on motorized water access to the wetland from the campground could be achieved.
In an August 2002 decision, the OMB agreed with the position of the Stewardship Association and allowed the appeal. "
